Life, Finances and Alcohol
Feb 07, 2024Alcohol is something that has varying degrees of impact in the lives of nearly all of us. I met Emma Gilmour from Hope Rising through a mastermind group we are both in, and we instantly connected. The work she does and the journey she has been on is incredible. To find out more, you can listen to our interview on the Money with Alpha podcast here.
For me personally, alcohol was an issue of conflict when I was growing up. I was surrounded by adults who drank too much - my parents included. Because I associated it with tension and conflict, I didn't drink at all until I was in my 20s. When my peers were trying to get older siblings to buy them alcohol and go to parties, I was quite happy to stay at home and read. That was my coping mechanism to avoid conflict.
It wasn't until years later, when I started to delve into personal development, that I realised the impact.
When it comes to money we tell ourselves stories as well and we associate memories as negative or positive, in connection with money.
This is why mindset is SO important and underpins everything that we experience with money. The beliefs we have about "who we are" and "how good (or not) we are with money". Any "ceilings" we perceive about our ability to earn income.
Becoming aware of our history and its impact is the first step.
Start to think back to your childhood and how you perceived money. Look for patterns and connections. They are there and what you will find is that they form a string type connection to where you are today.
It's time to see and acknowledge that string and to grab hold of it, so it no longer controls you in the way it has until now.
