Hi, everybody, and ah, welcome to this week's episode of money with Alpha. Today I'm joined by the lovely Lisa Roland. Hi, Lisa.
Hi. Thanks for having me.
Oh, you're welcome. I'm very interested in this conversation. I actually, Lisa and I connected on socials not too long ago, and then the other day she posted something which really piqued my interest, talking, um, about low tox products and being able to save money on like groceries and things like that.
And I thought, oh, save money. Low toxin was both my language. So I reached out and I said, oh, come on to the podcast and let's have a chat about what it is that you're doing, how you got to where you're going, and, um, just a little bit about what you're doing, how people can access, if they want to, the products, and, um, how you can also run it as a business as well.
So you can actually make some extra cash, which at the moment, let's face it, everybody's, um, looking for ways to do that. More and more of my clients are taking on additional work, um, and I'm talking to friends who are now starting businesses. So, um, it's a real sort of thing at the moment because you a, the freedom potentially, that it gives you, and also the extra cash as well.
So, Lisa, tell us a little bit about you. Um, yeah, a bit of your, your background and, uh, how you came to be doing what you're doing at the moment.
Okay. Um, in brief, I do like going to the beach. So that tells you that I like a bit of nature. I go camping, I go fishing, etcetera. Um, I've tried to, I have a compost, I got a veggie garden. I've tried to make the home for my stepdaughter and my, my dog and my husband and I.
A little less toxic because you do, you know, you try different things all of the time. I'm the person stands in, I late, and it's like, oh, which one do you choose? So there's timing, there's an extra bag load to the car, all of these things. So knowing that now, um, about three months ago, I saw on socials a friend that used to have a network marketing business, which, God forbid you say network marketing, but it is, it is just connection.
That's the biggest thing it is, which I love doing. I'm a natural networker. So this really sat with me, and it was low tox, greener cleaner products, uh, that you shop through all the aisles on an online portal press and they arrive and they come in a nice box.
You get a gift every month, which I'll tell you about in a minute. Um, so I thought, well, I'm going to give that a go. So I messaged her. She hadn't even reached out. She just messaged. And similar to how you'd seen my post the other day, very similar.
Um, and I just started to get to know a little bit about it, put my first order in. And that's when I learned there was actually, um, a bit of sharing of the revenue that could come my way, which, as you said before, could really help the bottom line.
Um, and that's where I am. So here we are.
Yeah. Yeah. It's interesting because the, uh, toxing is. I've been on a bit of a journey this year because, you know, bodies change as we get older. Um, and the buildup of stuff really starts to kick in. And, I mean, I'm not a big processed food. I actually had a funny incident, um, about a week ago.
My daughter and I and a friend and her daughter went strawberry picking. And afterwards we're like, oh, we'll get some lunch. So we were going to go to me, like, as fast food. I get is like, gosman and Gomez. And I'll have like, you know, a rice bowl with some beans and stuff.
But there was just like this stream of, I think there was Red Rooster, uh, KFC, something else. And then across the road there was hungry Jackson McDonald's. We walked into the McDonald's because we wanted the kids to just have a play in the playground. And I thought, oh, we'll just, we'll get them an ice cream.
And I walked in, I was like, uh, where's the people? There were these screens. I didn't know how to do any of it. I'm looking at are, uh, wandering around, looking at me like I'm this alien going, I hadn't walked into a, uh, McDonald's in about 20 years. It looks very different from what I read.
Yes. Self checkout. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
This is so strange. Can I ask a person something like, are there people? And I'm standing there and there's all these people walking around and none of them, like, like, staff and none of them actually, like, came to me because I don't think they're used to people coming to the countertops.
So, yeah, sorry. The concept of, you know, the toxins that we have in our food and the level of processing is, is always a big thing. And there have been organizations in the past that have sort of kind of offered these products, but not really to the same extent that I noticed here.
So in terms of saving money, because I think that's, that's one of the other things that, um, that is particularly interesting. How, how does it, like, what sort of products do you normally, would you buy there? And what's the product like, the price differential?
So an example I can give you because I have a lot of them. Um, as an example, I've been doing this now three months. I just did my second order a couple of days ago, and I knew it. It would probably take me six months to reflip everything in the house, other than food that I can get on malaleuka.
Um, the goal they have is they actually manufacture and package themselves, so they know everything that goes into it. The goal then is, say, cleaning, uh, product that they had because they've been going for, you know, 39 years, six years ago was, uh, a small tube. You'll notice that they have two times four, like four x, six x.
And it's because that small, ten mils, you put it into a spray jug down times two, and you fill the rest with water, which is what happens when you're going to woolies or coles, you're actually buying 66% of the marketing, the transport, the packaging and water in your products.
Um, and then the toxin in it is what is the problem? Um, so I've got concentrated detergent for the laundry. I've got for the bathroom tile and scrub, which is great. Funny, um, story went into the shower with the first, you know, spray. And normally you're prepared with a.
Yes.
Spray.
Painting.
Spray your heart out and don't breathe and get ready to jump. And anyway, I took my hand away and I couldn't believe I actually stayed in there. Now that has never happened. So the epiphany I had that moment was what have I been using? So I was mortified actually.
Um, so yeah, the concentrate of them, something always concentrate, say six times four years ago is actually now up to twelve times because they've worked on the base of the ingredients. Um, so one of those which gives me, say, four times the spray is $18. You actually go and buy that at the.
Supermarket, it's six. And it's, say, $32. I've got detergent, uh, for the laundry, which is a pump pack. One does a massive load. And I mean massive. I've done sheets this morning, 96 washers for $32 equals two and a half containers from Woolies. And that costs $54.95.
Yeah.
And you don't shop every day, though, every month. And you could shop a couple of times a month, because by the time you get to 35 points, which every product has a point, you get, it's, um, $10 flat shipping, or you get 50 points and it's free shipping. So I keep going and doing a lap around the house, you know, follow me here.
You've got your notepad, and you're putting it on. Get to the end of the week, I'm like, grace, do a quick runner. It's my stepdaughter. Do a runner. She goes in the laundry. No, no, we've still got that. And I said to myself, how do we still have that?
So I'm not even close to replenishing two of my concentrated detergents. And, uh, on my third month, going into my fourth, is when I'll be using the next laundry detergent. Now, this happens throughout the whole house. I've replaced my husband's shaving gel, all of his mouthwash, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner for the kids.
We have a koala cuban section for babies. So you've got your wipes, which I recall back in the day, they did the same thing on the ads with paper towel. So, um, they're actually like the number one seller. They're called koala cubs and their massive pack. Amazing sunscreen. Look, honestly, I could go on.
There's 350 products. So it's basically what you would normally shop for. Yeah, it's just you don't have to go to Kohl's, pop into chemist warehouse, and then carry all the bags home, and it arrives on your doorstep, which is fabulous.
Sounds lovely. So why did you, why were you looking for a business opportunity? Cause you said you'd finished, um, um, an employed role a few months ago. Um. What sent you down the path of looking for something?
So I find no matter who you talk to at the moment, bills are a thing. Christmas is coming. We've just come out of school holidays. Everyone around me looks tired. I was out at the football grand final the other day, and I said to one of my friends, are you okay?
She said, I've worked from home two days. The kids have come into the office. They need to go back to school. She's exhausted. And she said, I saw a social that you did the other day. What is that? I said, you, know, you don't even need to do the business.
It's about referring friends. Um, and that's the bit I liked about this, because I wanted a side hustle. I don't know if I want to go back into, um, my corporate world. And even if I do, the fact that I could do low tox, help people not get any side effects for skin issues, hormone imbalance, lung, you know, problems.
Um, I refer eight people this month, and they will share the revenue with me and give me $500 to $1,000. Now, you do that over three months. There's money for Christmas. Come Christmas, there's money for going back to school. And. And then if you decide to do, you know, four to eight people, which they've got a deal on, even at the moment I do four, and they're going to double my points.
Excuse me. Um, I just keep growing. They literally have paid out, uh, something like $7 billion to Joe blogs as referral around the globe.
Yeah.
So it's risk free.
Yeah, it's so good. Uh, we were talking about this before I hit record. I've been in and around lots of different things over the years, and I've never heard of this. I was like, how is it?
It's amazing, isn't it? It's been so, they've been around 39 years, but in Australia they've been here 26. Now we're used to just shopping for what we see on the television. We in the last two and a half months have had 261. I think his families joined to start shopping.
And it's just, and it's growing all of the time. So you shop, there's no risk. And I also love the customer service. Now, my corporate role, I was a huge customer service person. Um, and I rang them just to test them. I said, hi, just ringing, blah, blah, and they answered the phone in three rings.
They were absolutely lovely. They answered my questions. So I thought, at least if I'm referring a business m and I'm putting my brand to it, uh, I want people to be well looked after and I've been well looked after. So passive income, it's not really a network marketing word.
It's, how can I just get a few extra dollars? And then before you know it, they referred. They've referred. Next thing you know, that revenue is just gently coming through. Like it's, it's not a big nine to five, it's, you know, you can talk and you're talking about a great product.
You're talking about things that are, uh, completely the healthier alternative to what we're used to and what we're brought up with.
Yeah.
So I get quite excited about it, to be honest.
It is. And having it, um, affordable, that's one of the biggest things I find with things that are low tox or I mean, even organic. This is the interesting thing. Organic doesn't necessarily actually mean that it's low tox. So, like, when I go to the farmers market and first produce, you know, this is a, ah, different, um, sort of topic, really.
But, um, I buy the spray free stuff. I was like, I don't care if it's got the organic label on there, because there actually are still 25 different types of pesticides that you can use and still be called organic, whereas. So I prefer spray free. So it's so much in the marketing, there's so much out there that to be able to go to one place where you know everything there is.
Okay. Because I had a look on their website and talks about their ingredients, philosophy.
Um, um.
And there's all the things on there that you. That I would avoid.
Um, um.
And even the environmental side of things as well. So, yeah, it's. It's a really interesting concept, because when we think of businesses these days, and a lot of the women listening and a lot of the clients that I help are, uh, small business owners and starting a business from scratch, building a brand, all of that, it's actually really hard.
And a lot of businesses, if you buy into an established one, there's a lot of capital that goes in that, whereas here's an alternative. Um. And I'm not connected with this organization at all. I literally heard about it first yesterday. No.
And I'm the same. I can't believe it is risk free. And the level of risk free from. It is also that if I get, say, the vitamins, um, and in 86 days, because it's a 90 day, I'm completely unhappy with it. I've gone and been tested and my all levels are all over the show, blah, blah.
Which they're not because they're good, but, um, they'll refund it, no questions asked. Yeah. Any of the products, your little tablet things for the dishwasher. Sorry, I wasn't very happy with that. Okay, not a problem. Yeah, send it back. And it's, it's just a very well oiled, um, machine of what they're trying to achieve for people.
So if m. You think about um, the four big guys, they back to that 66% of what you pay them. It's the marketing. You know, the ACCC is just about to take them because of their, like, I nearly died the other day. Oh.
When I saw that article, I was just like finally coming to light.
Yeah. Because you hop on your community pages, um, you've got people that really are the ground and backbone of the country and they, they can't make ends meet. So, uh, honestly, the more that I get involved with this, which is so easy, everything, I don't know, something that's not actually on the website.
There is a whole page on ingredients, there's a whole page on the membership, the enrolments, the business, and it's actually all on the front screen of the website. So the moment you know, and I'll send you through the link today, and you'll be able to see exactly what I see.
There is nothing hidden. And I think that's the bit we find hard to believe.
Yeah.
You know, there are a lot of, when I left my corporate, I went through, uh, about six different businesses of looking at what type of thing I could get involved with. And you needed inventory, it was retail selling. You needed to minimum, I think it was $499 for me to even get to talk to somebody.
Um, there was massive things of training and do this, and I literally need to replace stuff in my home, have a really good person to talk to who is my now business partner. Um. And it's a no brainer.
Yes. Well, I like the simple, obviously, because.
My business is way too confusing.
Well, because even if the concept of network, like, I hesitated to use the word, I was like, is this network marketing? Because for some reason it's got a negative connotation. I think it's the way some of the other businesses have run in the past, but when it's really just networking, is connecting people and I know networking organizations that are so rigid that you have to do referrals.
You have this traffic light systems you've got. I mean that to me just feels really overwhelming and very unnatural. As humans we like to connect, we like to share. You know, like you said, we like to refer. If we find something that's really great, we'll tell other people about it.
So if that's all you're doing, it's just your natural day to day thing. It's um. Yeah it's good. And I like the, I like the low toxin, I like the cost because I was looking at the website and I had to look again. I was like, really? My husband chuckled because, um, he's from Germany and whenever we go back there, Europe, um, are really good on their organic and low tox products and there was this paste deodorant and um, my husband went back to Germany for a work trip last year or beginning of this year actually now.
And I was like, oh, can you please get me some more of these? These tubs of this paste deodorant that I like. And when he came back, he's like, these are like $18 for one little like tin. I was like, well, they're. But they're good, and they don't have any crap in them.
So whereas here I'm looking, it's like $9. I was like, okay, well, that's a little bit better than the 18 that I paid for this other one.
It is. I find it interesting as well. I've, uh, not. You don't need to be science based, you know, but there's no chlorine, there's no ammonia, there's no parabens, there's no abrasives.
Formaldehyde was the one that always got me. I was like, that's what they do to embalm dead bodies and phosphate skin.
Yeah. All of those words are things I've always just held with, ah. Uh, if you really want to get rust off an engine of a car, that's the stuff you got to use.
But our bodies aren't car engines. They're more delicate, um, machines.
And everything is, I think everything's so in your face with it. Um, I'll try us where. And you said before, organic or, I mean, it also comes down to what a plant. What's in the soil.
Yes.
Right. So it's the simplest things. You know, you get wagyu beef and it's grass fed. Yeah, but is it grass or grain? And where is it?
What are they putting in the grass to make it grow?
Just because it's marketing. Yeah. So you don't need to be, um, a complete green thumb to want to choose something that once you really look at it, you m actually get. You can get paid back for. Um, in my first month, I actually saved, I think, $56 off my, because of the deal that was going on at the time.
So, first month, I also got a pashmina. Last month, I'd gone through, put my, um, detergent for the kitchen sink, and it's concentrated, so I've had to say to my family, don't squeeze it. Just, just dab it because it bubbles everywhere. It's great. Um, anyway, I'd gone through and I'd got to, I think it was about 40 points at this point.
And I opened the cart and I looked down, I thought, well, I didn't do two detergents, but that was the gift for this month. Mhm. So there's an instant $10 yes. Yeah.
You know, and the products you would use. I mean, I remember I ordered some. I drank herbal tea and I'd ordered some herbal tea, um, actually, as a gift for a friend. And they, they gave me, like, a little satchel and it came back and it was black tea.
I was like, did you not realize I just ordered two things of herbal tea?
Yes.
And you're sending me black tea. I don't drink black tea.
No.
So I was like, you get a freebie, but it's not actually useful.
Not useful. I know. And when you first sign up, there's a, um, where you put in what some of the products are that you would normally use. And that helped me, because that's not them targeting you because you don't get ample emails. I don't even know if I've seen an email, to be honest.
Um, but it's the different aisles, so when I went through this, like, one page of. What do you shop for? For your house? Teabags. You know, muesli crave crushes. There's a whole peak performance reset thing going on at the moment for people. Um, there's vitamins, there is skincare, there's all the things for the kids.
Gorgeous. It's koala cub, it's little towel that. Like a little pack you can get when, um, you first sign up, you get a membership pack and it gives you a little bit of everything. So you can just try it. But I'm telling you, once you've ordered it, I still, like I said before, I'm not going to be ordering again for certain things.
And it's a weird mindset shift.
Yes, it lasts longer.
And I know everyone is time poor, but the time poor of 15 minutes on that website, to me, going down those extra five aisles, honestly, I went down to Woolies the other day and I, uh, ended up in aisle eight to get bin bags. And I thought, why did I bring down this aisle?
Like I said, I need anything winning. Oh my God, I was so excited. Uh, so, and then you only buy.
What you need as well because I find whenever I go to the supermarket, I have my list and I always come back with so many more things that weren't on my list, especially if my daughter's with me. Can I try this, mama? Can I try this?
I was like, yeah, yeah, exactly. Um, and then it also where my shops are located, I have a chemist warehouse.
Mhm.
And I used to rack it up because you go in chemist warehouse and before you've got your baby soaps, your um, deodorants, all of these things, you end up going through another couple of aisles and next thing you walked out and you spent $90.
Yeah.
So, you know, you get your omegas, all your vitamins and they've got some great vitamins. I've been on them now for two months and I'm really, I believe that I can notice the difference. It's good.
Yeah, fantastic. All right, well, um, we'll put the link for you in the show notes and then anything else that you'd like to share. Um, but yeah, I think saving money, making money and saving the planet and saving like helping your bodies, I was like, yeah, that was like all these, so many things that get ticked off by this.
It's really, it's an intriguing kind of concept because like I said, I've, you know, my mum did Avon when I was a kid. She did Amway, which turned to new ways, sorry, to a two k, and then she did new ways, which turned into modern. And there's, yeah, the isogenics and all the others.
I mean, we see what's happened to Tupperware now.
Um, I know. And there's, I think we're on our third one in the US at the moment. And that's the other part of this business they're family owned originally. They're debt free. They own all their manufacturing space. The coffee I get comes out of being grounded in Baldwin in Melbourne.
So, you know, they're worldwide.
Yeah, I don't drink coffee, but my husband does, so I'll have to check that out.
It's nice. Um, so, yeah, there's. There are a lot of things on there that you. It's. If it's a little mind shift, but it saves time and it does save money. And I am honestly, like any other person in. In your street that's got kids, got a dog, and just wants to do a little bit better.
So, yeah, I'd invite anybody. There's no pressure. It's a, uh, it's a referral program. So if you want to see it, try it. Honestly, just give me a shout. Yeah.
Sounds wonderful. All right, well, thank you so much for joining us.
Nice to see you.
Thank you. And, um, I will stop the recording and, um, yeah, anybody can reach out to Lisa and ask questions. I've got the website open, so I'm going to be checking it out myself, actually, because I'm intrigued.
Good luck.
So have a lovely week, everybody, and, um, yeah, we'll join you again next week.
Thanks.
